About This Project

Literary Laureates

An independent reference for significant English-language book awards, created to help readers, librarians, and booksellers discover notable books and keep track of award winners from 2005 to today.

How this site is written

Literary Laureates is a small independent project. Much of the site’s written content, including book summaries, recommendations, and editorial classifications, is drafted with the assistance of artificial intelligence.

AI makes it possible to cover more books, authors, and literary awards than would otherwise be practical. We do not see AI-assisted writing as inherently negative: the purpose of this site is to encourage people to discover books and read more widely. However, AI-generated content can contain errors, oversimplifications, or missing context. We therefore aim to be transparent about how the site is produced and welcome corrections when something is inaccurate.

How our data works

Public totals include awards with at least one valid winner record. The current dataset records winners only; finalists, shortlists, and longlists are not presented as winners.

A book that won more than one prize is counted once in the book total and once for each award result in the winner-record total.

Award results come from the official sources linked on individual award pages. Reading difficulty, pace, mood, suitability, summaries, and recommendations are editorial classifications. They are not statements made by prize juries, authors, or publishers.
